CURRENT HAPPENINGS!
Sister City Booth at the 2008 Cherry Blossom Festival San Francisco was a Great Success!
ROBOT: As you may recall, Osaka presented San Francisco with a time capsule in shape of a robot during the anniversary dinner in SF. Osaka has solicited children to send a letter on the topics of either (1) message to SF, Osaka's sister city; or (2) Robot and I, 50 years later, and among 1100+ applicants, 32 winners were chosen, and the first prize went to a 6th grader, who will be coming to SF to present all letters to be placed in the Robot.
Volunteers at the Sister City booth solicited such letters at the Japan Pavvilion that will also be placed in the robot. Letters from other occasions will be solicited as well.

The Beautiful Kanrinmaru of Heisei visited San Francisco - Highlights
The 67-footer sailboat Yume Hyotan named "Kanrinmaru of Heisei" has arrived in San Francisco. Captain Sano and his three crew members are here to deliver goodwill of Osaka people and 30 pictures and photos done by children of
Osaka to SF. Captain Sano and his three crew members
are in great spirits and delighted to be in their Sister City of
San Francisco..
The boat has two flags on the mast - one each with sketches of Mayor Seki and Mayor Newsom's portraits drawn by boy scouts and girl scouts under the direction of Illustrator Tamaji. This voyage was made possible by Osaka citizens gathering 12 million yen to fund the cost.
It will be docked as a guest of the St. Francis Yacht Club
(at the Marina in San Francisco), and located just across
from the main entrance to the Club. Please do go and visit.

Thank you to Kotaro Ono for sharing the great photos he took upon the arrival. He is a descendent of Tomogoro Ono who was on the original Kanrinmaru and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Kotaro Ono selected his favorite photos (right). For all his photos.
