Francisco Sister City Association
"To plan and carry out activities to stimulate cultural and economic
exchanges and further to promote the mutual understanding and friendly
relations between the citizens of Osaka and San Francisco in connection
with the sister city affiliation.
In 2007, Osaka and
San Francisco will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their sister city
relationship. Established on October 7, 1957, this is one of the first
sister city relationships between Japan and the USA. The two cities have
played a pioneering role in the promotion of friendship and goodwill between
our two nations, building a history of interaction spanning nearly half
a century.
Together with the
San Francisco - Osaka Sister City Association and other organizations
involved, we are committed to make the 50th anniversary celebrations an
opportunity to not only look back to the legacy of this relationship but
to plan for the future, beyond this anniversary."
