Sharing the kind invitation from San Francisco-Krakow Sister City Association:

Come join us at Noon on June 29th aboard the tall ship America to welcome her to the Bay Area, and to celebrate the 235th anniversary of the 1776 founding of San Francisco. We will have birthday cake and coffee, tour the vessel and learn of her history and her role in the upcoming America's Cup events. The America is a beautiful 139' schooner and replica of the original America, the first winner of what became known as the America's Cup. In America's Cup racing circles, she is also known as USA1.

Your children are welcome. The cost is $10 per person. Please register by June 22 at the SFKrakow.org website: Register

Here are the directions for driving and parking: Directions

Written in 1776 by the founders of San Francisco: “I do believe that, if we could be well populated, as in Europe, there would be nothing more pretty in the world; for this place has the best accommodations for founding on it a most beautiful city.” Here is a link to the quote and the history of San Francisco’s founding: History

Special thanks to Deborah Novachick, President of Strategic Automation Consulting (dnovachick@strategicautomation.com) and the owners of the America for making this event a reality.

2011 Annual General Meeting of Members - June 1st (Wed) Noon @ Ferry Building-SF Port Commissioner Conference Room

We are all of course still in mourning for the thousands of those who lost their lives or missing in Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011. SFOSCA joined many in the community to generate funds through the Japanese Cultural and Community Center (JCCCNC)’s Community Earthquake Relief Fund. The money generated will be sent directly to Japan and distributed by the Kobe YMCA directly to the areas of need. No administrative fees will be charged against funds raised, either by JCCCNC, Kobe YMCA or Union Bank in Japantown who agreed to waive all transfer fees.

The Annual General Meeting of members of SFOSCA will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 12 Noon in the Port of San Francisco’s Commissioners’ Conference Room in the Ferry Building, 2nd Floor, The Embarcadero. Please mark your calendars now. Consul General Hiroshi Inomata has indicated he will attend. All members and friends are invited and encouraged to attend. An obento lunch will be served at a minimal cost. Please click here for the sign-up form; please also note that it is time to renew your membership.
