2019 Student Ambassador Program
The San Francisco – Osaka Sister City Association is very pleased to once again announce its annual High School Student Ambassador Program. The goal of this program is to continue growing grassroots relationships between the people of San Francisco and Osaka, Japan, by providing two San Francisco high school students with the experience of a lifetime visiting Osaka for three weeks. Our commitment to work as a conduit of goodwill between the people of San Francisco and Osaka is stronger than ever.
We invite students to apply to this program which provides the opportunity for two high school students (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders) to spend three fully–funded weeks in Osaka, living with host families and learning about Japanese culture. We encourage all students with particular interests in Japan to apply. Prior knowledge of the Japanese language, while helpful, is not required for applicants.
The High School Student Ambassador Program should not be construed or advertised as an activity of the San Francisco Unified School District. This program is sponsored independently by the non-profit San Francisco – Osaka Sister City Association and funded privately with the support of our members.
Selection will be based on a written essay, personal interests and accomplishments, and an in–person interview (please see the application package for details). We are looking for independent, motivated students with an interest in Japan who would thrive in a cross–cultural situation as San Francisco’s Student Ambassador.
We have truly enjoyed seeing selected students return from their Osaka adventures with broadened horizons, a new sense of self, and an appreciation for Japanese culture and people, and we look forward to seeing this transformation in two more worthy students this summer!
